Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us through the contact form below if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Peak season on the Upper Madison is generally mid-June through mid-July due to run-off flows fading away and of course, the start of the Stonefly & Caddis hatches.  That being said, anytime you can visit SW Montana is a great time!  Even during our winter months, there is excellent fishing when the conditions allow.

The most important packing tip is to bring layers and a good raincoat.  Even during our hottest summer months, there are rain showers that can drop the temp 30 degrees without much notice/forecast.  For gear, generally, a 9' 5 or 6 weight rod with a floating line is your best bet for our larger rivers, but there are situations where a 3 to 4 weight rod can be just the trick for smaller streams.

Included with the pricing above are lunch, flies, leader/tippet, and any rental gear you may need like rods, reels, boots, & waders.  Not included are fishing licenses and gratuities, a customary tip is 20% of the trip cost.

For peak season (mid-June through mid-July) we recommend booking well beforehand.  These dates are often booked 6 months in advance.

While you may be able to find a last-minute opening due to a cancellation, we can't make any guarantees.

For non-peaks time (March-May & August-October) we recommend at least 1 month in advance if you have a very specific date in mind.  As always, please don't hesitate to contact us regarding availability!

Not at all!  While many of our anglers do have a specific trip in mind while booking, we also have folks who decide day-of depending on what the guide recommends would be best.
